Why We Built Methodwise

Methodwise was created by a parent and educator who has lived the homework struggle firsthand. We speak teacher.

The Homework Gap Every Parent Knows

I wanted to help but accidentally created more confusion. I understood learning theory. I just didn't understand what decomposing numbers meant.

I've homeschooled both of my daughters at different points, and those experiences showed me firsthand how methods like area models and number bonds differ from how most of us learned math. I spent hours trying to teach myself these new methods so I could teach my daughters.

That's how the idea for Methodwise was born.

From Educator to Founder

With 15 years in higher education, I've spent my career supporting learning. I understand instructional design, pedagogy, and how to make complex concepts accessible to learners.

But when it came to helping my own kids with homework, I found myself in the same boat as every other parent. The disconnect was real — and it wasn't about intelligence or effort. It was about not knowing the method.

What the Research Confirmed

As I began building Methodwise, I also spent time digging into the research behind homework, learning, and parental involvement. Research consistently shows that how parents help matters more than how much they help. When adults understand the strategies and methods being used in the classroom and feel equipped to support learning, children are more likely to become confident, engaged, and independent learners.

Feedback from educators, parents, and mental health professionals has reinforced how important calm, aligned homework support can be for both learning and family well-being.

What Methodwise Does About It

Most homework tools are built for kids. Methodwise is built for parents.

Student-facing apps practice skills. Methodwise explains the methods for parents — the specific strategies, language, and models your child's teacher is using — so you can help without accidentally teaching it a different way.

The solution isn't giving parents the answers.

It's giving them the understanding — by providing the same strategies, language, and methods teachers use in the classroom so parents can support learning instead of competing with it.

Methodwise bridges the gap between how we learned and how our kids are learning today. Because the best homework help doesn't replace what happens in the classroom. It complements it.

Methodwise gives you three ways to get up to speed: ask the chat for real-time help with tonight's homework, watch a short video to see the method before you explain it, or read a step-by-step guide you can reference at the table. Explore our video library and blog to get familiar with the methods before your next homework session.
